After we announced the signing of goalkeeper Misa Rodriguez, make sure you’ve got the lowdown on our new recruit.
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

The Spanish international goalkeeper was Born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in July 1999. Misa developed at youth level with CD Femarguin before joining Atletico Madrid in 2017.
She initially played footbal as a striker at the age of five, wanting to score lots of goals!
A move to Deportivo La Coruña followed ahead of the 2019/20 season, during which Misa established herself as one of Spain’s most promising young goalkeepers, helping Deportivo to a fourth-place finish in their first top-flight campaign.
WHEN IT BECAME REAL

Misa became one of Real Madrid’s first signings upon the club’s formation in 2020 and went on to win the Zamora Trophy – awarded to the goalkeeper with the lowest goals-per-game ratio in the league – in her first season, repeating this feat in 2022/23.
Misa was made Real Madrid captain in 2025 and departs the Spanish capital with 215 appearances to her name – more than any other player in the club’s history.
FLYING THE FLAG

At international level, Misa made her senior Spain debut in 2021 and has gone on to win 24 caps. She was part of the Spain squad that won the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023, starting all three of her country’s group games at the competition. Misa also won the UEFA Nations League in 2024.
Naturally, Misa is good friends with Mariona Caldentey, Ona Batlle and former Gunner Laia Codina!
OTHER INTERESTS
Outside of football, Misa is a keen surfer! She also enjoyed rhythmic gymnastics, judo, running, swimming and cycling at a young age.
