Christian Norgaard’s transfer to Everton was confirmed shortly after our pre-season match against Real Betis, and afterwards Mikel Arteta praised the midfielder for the impact he had during his only season in north London.

The Denmark international played 20 times for us in all competitions, and leaves us as a Premier League champion. The 32 year old brought his experience and knowhow to the midfield, and the boss said the club will be forever grateful for his contribution.

Here’s what he said: “It’s a message of admiration, love and I'm very thankful for what he brought to the club, how he helped us to win.

“I think behind the scenes, we haven't seen what he's done, but I think he's a player that has a unique quality to make others better, to maintain a culture to the highest standards.

“And then his contribution on the pitch when he played and had his minutes. So it was difficult to let him go. I understand it's a stage in his career that he needs to play and fulfil as well, all their dreams, but (we’re) forever thankful.”
