The versatile defender joined us from Scottish side St Johnstone at the start of last season, before cementing himself within our academy ranks.

Having put pen to paper to continue his Arsenal journey, Callan said: “I’m really delighted to get it over the line and just really looking forward to what's coming next.

“I moved away from home last year and joined Arsenal last season and had a really good season last season. So, it's been a good year so far, so looking forward to kicking on.”

Callan wore the captain’s armband at times during his debut season, as well as turning out in the UEFA Youth League.In total, the promising right back played 38 times for our academy sides, from the FA Youth Cup right the way through to Premier League 2.

“I think I made a good impression,” Callan said. “Playing a lot of games. I was really happy with last season. Hopefully, I can have a good season this season.

”The young defender, who looks up to former Gunner Granit Xhaka as a role model, also made a host of appearances for his national team at youth level, turning out four times for Scotland's under-17s.

“It's obviously a really proud moment playing for my country, so there's nothing better. So, when I pull on that Scotland jersey, it does really make a difference.

”Callan has also had the chance to train with the first team during his time at the club so far, and the teenager is hoping to get more of those experiences this campaign.

“I got a few chances to work with them, and they were really good at giving you tips and pointers on what to work on and stuff. So, taking advice from the best can only help you get better as well. So, you need to take that on board.

“Hopefully I can be a fully-fledged Arsenal player and play as many games as possible.”
