Regular readers will know that the neem tree is – and always will be – known as the “Arsenal tree” because we have planted tens of thousands of the fast-growing, drought and pest-resistant variety. But that’s not all.

On this new site the community have decided to plant a mixture of neem and guava. While the neem gives a great yield of timber (and locks up CO2) in the long term, the guava harvest will boost the community’s nutrition and will yield a useful cash crop, starting in as little as two years from planting.

Guava will benefit the community because it is a great source of vitamin C, an important antioxidant that helps maintain our immune function and nervous system, as well as playing a key role in the body’s manufacture of connective tissue.

Next time you see a guava in your local supermarket, picture them growing in our forest and think about all that goodness they’re bringing the Bore community.

The Lions and Lionesses are back in training

In addition to supporting the community of Bore to plant trees, the club also supports the local Bore Lions and Lionesses football teams. We have sent the players some new kit, which arrived just in time for the start of the new season, and they can also be seen sporting new boots – which are particularly welcome as there isn’t much turf in evidence on the training pitch!

Regular readers will know that we have been backing the Lions and Lionesses for years now, and that they have caused quite a stir in the area. Last season both teams competed in the annual Neem Cup – a tournament we also support – and both teams won. Now they’re working hard to make sure they defend their titles next year, and we will bring you news of how they’re getting on as the season progresses.
