Mikel Merino, Martin Zubimendi and David Raya are all in contention to feature in the 23rd World Cup final, with Spain looking to pick up a second world title.

To mark the biggest game in international football, we've taken a look back at every Arsenal player to play in a World Cup during their N5 tenures:

1998 - DUO WIN WORLD CUP

Having featured throughout the tournament, midfielder Emmanuel Petit lined up in the starting XI in Paris as France took on Brazil at the Stade de France.

A double from Zinedine Zidane put Les Bleus in control before a second Gunner, Patrick Vieira, was introduced onto the biggest stage of all.

His impact was massive, setting up club teammate Petit in stoppage time to make it 3-0, sparking jubilant scenes as France won their first-ever World Cup.

2006 - HENRY LOSES OUT

Thierry Henry, part of the France squad in 1998 but a Juventus player at the time, was firmly an Arsenal great when he stepped onto the pitch in the 2006 World Cup final in Berlin.

Our captain at the time played 107 minutes against Italy before being replaced by former Gunner, Sylvain Wiltord in extra-time. The French line-up also featured another ex-Gunner in Vieira, and future Gunner, William Gallas, who joined us just a month after the final.

France would go on to lose to Italy 5-3 on penalties, giving the Azzurri a fourth World Cup crown.

2010 - CESC BEATS RVP IN JOBURG

The 2010 World Cup in South Africa saw two of our Gunners go head-to-head as Cesc Fabregas' Spain took on Robin van Persie's Netherlands.

In a tight game, the Dutch, who were captained by former Arsenal man Giovanni van Bronckhorst, were reduced to 10 men when John Heitinga was sent off in the 109th minute.

As the game headed towards penalties, Fabregas stepped up for Spain, providing an assist for Andres Iniesta to score the only goal of the game as La Roja picked up their first ever World Cup.

2014 - OZIL AND PER TRIUMPH IN BRAZIL

After demolishing Brazil 7-1 in the semi-final, Germany headed to Rio to take on Argentina for the final, and following a fantastic debut campaign in N5, Mesut Ozil started for Germany on the left at the Maracana.

With seven minutes remaining and the game still 0-0, Mario Gotze made the breakthrough with a volley from a tight angle.

With time ticking down, Germany threw on defender Per Mertesacker, replacing fellow Gunner Ozil, as Germany saw out the contest to give Die Mannschaft the World Cup for the first time since 1990.

Lukas Podolski was part of the German squad, but did not feature in the final for Joachim Low's side.
